The closed session for our 10/28/19 meeting begins at 6:00pm. The board will reconvene for open session starting around 7pm in the LASD Board Room. The entire agenda and supporting documentation can be found here.
First up, the Board will discuss an Anti-Idling Initiative Signage proposal brought to them by Blach Intermediate School students at its last meeting on October 14th. This is a discussion item and the Board is asked to direct staff to further investigate such an initiative at all 9 of our schools. Last meeting these students spoke during Community Comment requesting that we place anti-idling signs on all our campuses encouraging our parents and caregivers to shut off their engines while while waiting to pick up students. The students cited many scientific studies evidencing how much it would make a difference for our environment and further stated that Green Town Los Altos would be paying for the signs. I know I am already in support of this initiative. I want to ensure there is a world here into perpetuity for these students and their children (and their children's children...). Next, Joan Chaplick from MIG, the third party consultant LASD hired to facilitate the Community Engagement Process, will present on how the process has gone thus far and what to expect going forward. This is a discussion item and MIG's presentation can be found under agenda item H.2 using the link above. Our first two charettes were held on September 25th and October 5th with close to 450 community members attending. There will be one more, a multilingual charrette, held on Tuesday, October 29th at the Santa Rita Multipurpose Room from 6-7:30 pm for our Spanish, Mandarin, Russian and Japanese speaking families. The next phase in the public process is the workshops. They will be held on November 2nd and 4th and will involve community members sharing their levels of support for each of the ideas generated during the charrettes. Then, Ms. Elizabeth Leach of the Curriculum & Instruction Department will present the Fall Student Data Update. This is a discussion item and her presentation can be found under agenda item H.3. California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASP) scores were made public across the state a couple of weeks ago. This is the aggregated data of the tests our 3rd through 8th graders took in the Spring. Ms. Leach will present on our performance this year as compared to prior years and shine some lights on areas to be improved and how. Randy Kenyon will then present a Contribution Agreement for the 10th Site Purchase for approval by the Board. This is an action item and the agreement can be found under agenda item H.4. Mr. Kenyon is requesting the Board approve this agreement that will provide for a $4,000,000 contribution towards the purchase of the 10th site. This contribution from Greystar, along with contributions from local property owners and the City of Mountain View, and the Transfer of Development Rights sale proceeds are what will be making the purchase of a parcel worth $155 million, cost LASD only $27.7 million at the end of the day. Sandra McGonagle will then present LASD's California School Dashboard Local Indicator Report. This is a discussion item and her presentation can be found under agenda item H.5. There are 5 local indicators LASD is reporting on including Basic Conditions at Schools, Standards Implementation, Parent Involvement, Local Climate Survey and Broad Course Study. LASD need only report on whether the indicator was met and how. Lastly, the Board is asked to approve an Amendment of Employment Agreement with the Superintendent of Schools. This is an action item and the amendment to Jeff Baier's employment agreement can be found under agenda item H.6. The Board is asked to approve this amendment in order to make Mr. Baier's performance evaluation cycle more closely align with LASD goal setting and budget creation schedule. Please note, this is just the highlights of what is on the agenda for the 10/28/2019 meeting. You can inform yourself about the rest of the agenda at the link provided above. As always, feel free to email me with any questions. Comments are closed.
