This week's closed session begins at 5:00pm. The board will reconvene for open session starting around 7pm in the LASD Board Room. The entire agenda and supporting documentation can be found here.
Every year, representatives from each LASD school present at a board meeting. Egan Junior High will present this week. Please note, there is no BCS or Prop. 39 Update on the agenda for this board meeting. However, if you have any comments you want to make to the Board regarding either or anything not on the agenda, please do not hesitate to try to speak during the Community Comments portion of our agenda (H). At this point, most community members should have received an email from Jeffrey Baier stating that representatives from the BCS and LASD Boards met on Tuesday, February 5th as part of ongoing negotiations in pursuit of a long term facilities agreement and that we had a productive session and believe we can come to a mutually beneficial solution, albeit with difficult compromises on both sides. As such, both sides agreed to extend the upcoming Prop 39 deadlines two weeks to focus on continued negotiations. Sandra McGonagle will present a Low Performing Students Block Grant Plan to the Board. It is an action item and her presentation can be found under agenda item I.1. LASD (a Local Education Agency (LEA)) is allowed to apply for funds ($71,137) to meet the needs of low performing students who are not otherwise identified for supplemental funding under the LCFF. Sandra is asking the Board to approve her plans to apply for and receive a Block Grant to support math instruction for low performing students. I look forward to her presentation and to learn more about her plans. Next, Randy Kenyon will present a 2019-2020 Preliminary Budget based on Governor Newsom's proposals for the state budget. This is a discussion item and the presentation can be found under agenda item I.2. At our last board meeting Randy informed the Board that the Governor's budget will only involve a $250,000 (plus cost of living increase for Special Education) benefit for the district. As such, Randy's budget for LASD takes into consideration those proposals. Jeff Baier then asks the Board to consider casting a vote to fill six vacancies on the 2019 CSBA Delegate Assembly. This is an action item and the ballot and applications of all the candidates can be found under agenda item I.3. CSBA is the California School Boards Association and the candidates for delegates are all local school board trustees from various districts that if elected will set the general policy direction for CSBA. Delegates ensure that CSBA promotes the interests of school districts and county offices of education throughout the state. Therefore, when considering who should represent our area in the CSBA Delegate Assembly, LASD should consider who they think might best represent LASD's unique interests. Lastly, Jeff Baier will present the 2019-20 Board Meeting Calendar. This is an action item and the calendar is found under agenda item I.4. The Board is asked to review and approve the board meeting calendar for the 2019-20 school year. Please note, this is just the highlights of what is on the agenda for the 2/11/2019 meeting. You can inform yourself about the rest of the agenda at the link provided above. As always, feel free to email me with any questions. Comments are closed.
