The closed session for our 10/14/19 meeting begins at 5:30pm. The board will reconvene for open session starting around 7pm in the LASD Board Room. The entire agenda and supporting documentation can be found here.
We will first have a presentation by Thuy Thi Nguyen regarding Foothill College student educational needs and priorities. This is a discussion item and her presentation can be found under agenda item H.1 using the link above. Foothill College is an amazing asset that we have in our backyard. Not only is it a resource for college aged students, but also adults and high school students. We are very lucky to have such a top notch community college located in our district. Next up we have a Community Engagement Process Update from Jeff Baier and Sarah Stern Benoit. This is a discussion item and the presentation can be found under agenda item H.2. On September 25th and October 5th, the Community Engagement for Facilities Project Team, led by MIG, hosted charrettes at Blach and Egan, respectively. With active engagement of a diverse cross section of our community of over 200 people on September 25th and over 250 on October 5th, participants at small group tables went over previously considered solutions for facilities and introduced new ideas. At LASD’s next regularly scheduled board meeting on October 28th, MIG will report on the charrettes and discuss the upcoming November workshops. These workshops will be held on November 2nd and 4th and will have participants discuss, evaluate and weigh public support for the community-generated ideas from the charrettes. MIG will then organize and summarize the results and will present them to the LASD Board in January. Then, Sandra McGonagle will help present the Public Hearing for Textbook Certification and asks us to approve Resolution of the Sufficiency of Instructional Materials. The two coupled together are an action item and the resolution can be found under agenda item H.4. This is something the Board is required to do every year pursuant to Education Code Section 60119 and the District has met the requirements. Randy Kenyon will then present a revised Amendment to Resolution Establishing a Reconstituted Facilities Master Plan Advisory Committee for approval by the Board. This is an action item and the proposed resolution can be found under agenda item H.5. At our last meeting on 9/23/19 the Board considered a request by BCS for an administrator in addition to their allotment of a teacher and/or parent. In a split vote, the Board decided that they will not be allowed another member in the committee, and in another split vote the Board decided that their member could be either a parent, teacher or administrator. The Board is asked to approve this revised resolution. Lastly, Randy Kenyon will present regarding our Sharing of Parcel Tax Proceeds with Bullis Charter School pursuant to Measure GG. This is an action item and a spreadsheet showing how BCS spent their proceeds is found under agenda item H.6. The Board is asked to make a determination that BCS spent their portion of the Measure GG parcel tax proceeds pursuant to the letter of the law. Parcel Tax proceeds are meant only to pay for teachers' salaries. BCS's spreadsheet shows that they spent their proceeds on just that. Please note, this is just the highlights of what is on the agenda for the 10/14/2019 meeting. You can inform yourself about the rest of the agenda at the link provided above. As always, feel free to email me with any questions. Comments are closed.
