COVID-19 and Safely Reopening Schools

Monday, July 27, 2020 LASD Board meeting will start its open session at 7:00pm and it will be held using the Zoom webinar platform.  To register in advance for the meeting, click on this link.  The entire agenda and supporting documentation for this week's meeting can be found here.

Jeff Baier and Sandra McGonagle will start off the meeting by presenting the Reopening for 2020-21 School Year Health and Safety Plan.  This is an action item and Jeff and Sandra's draft plan can be found under agenda item F.1 using the link above.  The Board is asked to approve the draft plan.  The plan is well thought out and follows state and county guidelines thoroughly.   I highly recommend you read it to understand the plans LASD has to physically reopen schools safely when the time is right.  Furthermore, if you did not watch the Town Hall from Thursday night, I recommend you watch that here.  

Next, Randy Kenyon will present his latest Financial Update.  This is a discussion item and his presentation can be found under agenda item F.2.  In the presentation Randy details the different COVID-19 related funding sources we are entitled to and what expenditures we will make using those funding sources.  In total, LASD is expected to receive additional funding from State, Federal and Local sources of just over $2,000,000 for the education and safety of our roughly 4,000 students and over 550 staff members with very specific restrictions on how it can be spent.  LASD, as a public entity, was not entitled to file for a PPP loan, but did avail itself of every funding source for which it qualified.  

Lastly, Jeff will present the COVID-19 Mitigation Plan Board Policy Update.  This is a discussion item and the board policy update can be found under agenda item F.3.  This policy memorializes state law and regulations and LASD COVID-19 related plans into one document that will supersede any other policies related to COVID-19 in conflict with it.
