This week, closed session begins at 5:00pm. The board will reconvene for open session starting around 7pm in the LASD Board Room at 201 Covington Rd. The entire agenda can be found here.
Every year, representatives from each LASD school presents at a board meeting. The first school to present is Gardner Bullis School. They will highlight how the Fountas and Pinnell phonics program is being implemented in kinder and first grade. Randy Kenyon and Suzanne Lowe will then share the Negotiating Interests for the California School Employees Association (the staff's union). This is a discussion item that requires no action. Their negotiating interests can be found under agenda item I.1 using the link above. Next up, the moment you have been waiting for, Randy will present Bullis Charter School's Proposition 39 Facilities Request. The 5 year agreement with BCS ends as of 6/30/2019. While BCS and LASD has been in ongoing discussions to create another agreement for quite some time now, no agreement has been reached as of yet. Therefore, BCS was required to file their Proposition 39 Facilities Request on November 1st to ensure they have adequate facilities for the 2019/20 school year. In their request, BCS stated 1058 in district students already accepted enrollment for the 19/20 school year and that they had a preference for Egan with exclusive (not shared) use of its approximately 20 acres. Unless an agreement outside the Proposition 39 process is reached, the rest of the process is as follows:
This is a discussion item and no action will be taken this week. Randy's presentation can be found under agenda item I.2. The entirety of the charter school's Proposition 39 Facilities Request can be found here. We welcome your comments and suggestions as we navigate this process, so please come to the meeting to address in person or email us here. LASD wants to do what is best for all public students in the district and make sure equal treatment and equal consideration is given to each and every student and school community. Elizabeth Leach will then present a Fall Student Data Update outlining LASD student's results in CAASP (California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress) and ELPAC (English Language Proficiency Assessment of California) taken in Spring 2018. This is a discussion item and Ms. Leach's presentation can be found under agenda item I.3. Then, Dr. Robin Avelar La Selle, CEO of Principal's Exchange, will present the results of her Achievement Audit of LASD done in October. This is a discussion item, and no presentation has been posted as of yet. I look forward to hearing the results of the audit and hearing her recommendations on how we can improve. Sandra McGonagle will then present the summary of the LASD metrics used for the California School Dashboard local indicators. This is a discussion item and her presentation can be found under agenda item I.5. Lastly, Randy will request the board approve a Resolution to Establish Temporary Borrowing Between Funds. This is an action item and the resolution can be found under agenda item I.6. I am unsure want prompts this resolution and look forward to hearing more from Randy on this at the meeting. Please note, this is just the highlights of what is on the agenda for the 11/13/2018 meeting. You can inform yourself about the rest of the agenda at the link provided above. As always, feel free to email me with any questions. Comments are closed.
