The Monday, May 2, 2022, LASD Board meeting will start its open session at 7:00pm and live public comments may only be made in person in the LASD Board Room. If you plan to participate in person, wearing a mask is strongly recommended in accordance with SCCPHD and CDPH guidelines. We will continue to use the Zoom webinar platform for community members to follow our meetings at home, but public comment will not be allowed on it. If you cannot attend in person, and have a comment that you would like the LASD Board to consider in its decision making, please email all of us at [email protected] by 5pm on Saturday, 4/30/22.  To register to watch the board meeting from the comfort of your home, click here.  The entire agenda and supporting documentation for this week's meeting can be found here.

First up on the agenda, Claire Griffin, the Summer Academy and Extended School Year Principal, will give a Summer School Update.  This is a discussion item and her presentation can be found under agenda item H.1 using the link provided above.  The Summer Academy will be held at Santa Rita and is invite only to provide students who need a "running start" to bridge their current grade to their next school year.  So far, 235 students have been invited to participate in the program from kindergarten through 7th grade.

Next, Jennifer Keicher and Erin Green will provide a Social Emotional Multi-Tiered Systems of Support to Students and Staff Update.  This is a discussion item and their presentation can be found under agenda item H.2.  The presentation goes over the supports our students receive in each tier (Tier 1: every student, Tier 2: at risk students, and Tier 3: select few students who need intensive interventions) and the resources that are still needed for each tier and the cost to the district of such additions for both students and staff.

Then, Sandra McGonagle will provide an Academic Multi-Tiered Systems of Support to Students Update.  This is a discussion item and Sandra's presentation can be found under agenda item H.3.     The presentation goes over the types of academic support given at each tier (same as the tiers outlined above) and more details about specific interventions at each tier.  According to the data, of the 175 students served in tier 3, 117 of them are on track to meet grade level by the end of the year.

Randy Kenyon will next present a Resolution Authorizing Procurement of Upgraded Phone Systems. This is an action item and Randy's resolution and background material can be found under agenda item H.4.  The district's phone systems were last upgraded as part of the 1998 Bond Measure with the oldest phones upgraded in 2003 and the newest in 2008.  Randy asks the Board to approve a resolution authorizing an RFP for a specific type of phone system that the district and its consultants deemed best to serve our communication and emergency needs.

Randy will then give us his latest update on the Universal Meals Program.  This is a discussion item and Randy's presentation can be found under agenda item H.5.  This last week there were taste tests of 3 different vendors and proposals from those vendors are expected by Tuesday, May 3rd.  Price and taste of food will be two of many factors considered by the staff in picking a Universal Meals vendor.

Last, but definitely not least, Randy will present a Resolution Authorizing the Issuance of Tax and Revenue Anticipation Notes.  This is an action item and the resolution can be found under agenda item H.6.
Every Spring the Board is asked to authorize these notes because we incur expenses over the summer before we receive our portion of the property tax revenue from Santa Clara County.  This year we are being asked to borrow $15,000,000.

Please note, this is just the highlights of what is on the agenda for the 5/2/2022 meeting.  You can inform yourself about the rest of the agenda at the link provided above.  As always, feel free to email me with any questions.
