Sandra McGonagle will start the meeting by giving the Board an Update on Virtual Learning. This is a discussion item and her presentation can be found under agenda item B.1 using the link provided above. LASD is in Phase 2 of Virtual Learning. Phase 1 was the launch of virtual learning, while Phase 2 is where LASD continues to refine and improve virtual school offerings for ALL LASD students. Her presentation outlines the District's guidance and expectations for teacher communication, types and duration of instruction, school and class community building, grading, and attendance. She also touches base on the end of the school year and the uncertainty of what the beginning of the 20/21 school year will look like. Next up, Sandra McGonagle will discuss the current state of the District's requirements as it relates to the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) for the 20/21 school year and the three years beginning with the 21/22 school year. This is a discussion item and her presentation can be found under agenda item B.2. It is Sandra's understanding, that in the face of the pandemic, the due date for the 20/21 LCAP and Annual Update will be moved to mid December. While the budget approval is normally coupled with LCAP, those will be separated this year. It is her understanding that the Annual Update will not only include the normal state of our progress on our goals, but it will also include a report on LASD's response to COVID-19. Last, but not least, Jeff Baier will present an update on LASD Facilities Process. This is a discussion item and his presentation can be found under agenda item B.3. Jeff is asking for the Board's direction on how we should proceed on these discussions in the wake of the uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. While the District is committed to completely the Community Engagement Process and desires finding a long term facilities solution for BCS, there is much uncertainty as it relates to:
Furthermore, the current emergency remote teaching and learning situation requires LASD's staff to have a laser focus on assessing and iterating on distance learning for all our students. After this agenda item, the Board will adjourn to closed session. Please note, this is just the highlights of what is on the agenda for the 4/27/20 meeting. You can inform yourself about the rest of the agenda at the link provided above. As always, feel free to email me with any questions. Comments are closed.
