Open session starts at 7pm in the LASD Board Room at 201 Covington Rd. The entire agenda can be found here.
Springer Elementary School will present at this board meeting. Through out the year, each LASD school presents to the board to highlight their unique accomplishments and programs. I just toured their campus on Thursday and saw first hand some amazing education in progress. I heard first hand from Principal Boskie how they implement personalized learning at Springer which includes, among other things, her taking on literacy instruction of one small group of Springer Bees. I look forward to their presentation. Randy Kenyon will present a Measure N Update to the board. This is an action item. A copy of his entire powerpoint presentation can be found at the agenda link above under agenda item I.1. Below are highlights of what happened at the Mountain View City Council's most recent meeting. On January 16th, the Mountain View City Council:
Staff recommends the Board take the following actions:
Additionally, staff seeks direction as to whether the Board approves Mountain View City Council’s stipulation that they be part of the public process of informing the board’s decision regarding the 10th site use. Randy Kenyon and LASD's auditor will present the Audited Financial Report for the 2016/2017 school year. The presentation and the audited financial report can be found at the link provided above under agenda item I.2. This is an action item. The staff recommends that the board approve the audited financial report. The auditor found no exceptions (that is, there were no disagreements with any item in the report or limitations to the extent of the audit). Randy Kenyon will present the 2018-19 State Budget and how it effects LASD's bottom line. This is a discussion item. His presentation can be found at the agenda item link above under agenda item I.3. Jeff Baier will present a preliminary draft of the charge and set up of the 10th Site Advisory Task Force. This is a discussion item. The preliminary draft can be found at the agenda link above under agenda item I.4. The prospective charge of the task force is to understand and analyze the complex issues and factors that must be considered to determine how the district can best use the 10th site. Sandra McGonagle and Greg Drummond will present a Curriculum Update on the English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum and instructional practices for literacy (reading and writing) in K-8. This is a discussion item to update the board on the implementation of the updated ELA curriculum. The presentation can be found at the link provided above under agenda item I.5. Jeff Baier will present the proposed 2018-19 District Calendar. This is a discussion item. The proposed calendar can be found at the link provided above under agenda item I.6. The calendar is usually made to match the MVLA (high school district) calendar as much as possible. It is important to note the proposed calendar starts classes a week later than the 2017/2018 school year and begins the December holiday break a week later also. Please note, this is just the highlights of what is on the agenda for 1/22/2018 meeting. You can inform yourself about the rest of the agenda at the link provided above. Feel free to email me with any questions. Comments are closed.
